Xinhua News Agency, Beijing (Reporters Wu Mengtong, Sun Nan) Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning stated at a regular press conference on the 5th that the Nanjing Massacre was a brutal crime committed by Japanese militarism. The evidence is ironclad and cannot be tampered with. History cannot be overturned. China urges Japan to deeply reflect on its war crimes and completely break away from militarism.
A reporter asked: It is reported that Nagasaki City, Japan plans to complete the update of the Nagasaki Nuclear Explosion Museum exhibition board in 2026. Relevant sources revealed that the copywriting plan for the display boards about the Nanjing Massacre in the museum will no longer use the word "massacre" and will be replaced by "the Nanjing incident that killed many civilians and prisoners." What is China’s comment on this?
Mao Ning said that the Nanjing Massacre was a brutal crime committed by Japanese militarism. The evidence is ironclad and cannot be tampered with. The Tokyo Trial clearly identified the Japanese atrocities in Nanjing as a "massacre" rather than a so-called "incident". The "Judgment of the International Military Tribunal for the Far East" devotes a special chapter to discussing "the atrocities committed by the Japanese army in Nanjing". Through a large number of survivor testimonies, third-party foreign records and Japanese military files, it uses an international judicial judgment to determine the heinous crimes of the Japanese invaders in causing the Nanjing Massacre. Matsui Iwane, the ringleader of the Nanjing Massacre, was hanged as a Class A war criminal.
"History cannot be overturned. I have noticed that many Japanese nuclear bomb survivors, Nagasaki citizen groups and people of insight have called for the crimes and history of Japanese militarism as the perpetrators to be correctly and completely reflected. We urge Japan to deeply reflect on its war crimes and completely separate from militarism." Mao Ning said.
