Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, April 4th. The BWF recently announced that this season, it will pilot the scoring rules of the "3-innings 15-point system" in some BWF third-level events, national championships and other competitions.
At present, badminton games usually adopt the rule of two wins in three games and 21 points per game, and the problem of long game time is often criticized. The BWF said that this season will pilot the new 15-point system for each inning in some competitions, including ten BWF third-level events. The first game is the Mexico International Challenge held from May 7 to 11, and the last game is the China International Challenge held from October 28 to November 2.

The Badminton World Federation introduced that the game will adopt a scoring method of two wins in three games and a 15-point score per game. When the score is 14, the side leading two points will win the game; each game will be up to 21 points. When one side gets 8 points in each game, enter the inter-game rest.
"The organizers of each event will collect game data. All stakeholders, including member association leaders and staff, organizers, volunteers, players, coaches, team managers, technical officials, etc., must complete an online questionnaire to feedback the experience of using the new scoring rules." The World Badminton Federation said in the announcement.
Baltimore World Council will decide whether to propose the formal launch of new scoring rules at the 2026 Annual Conference based on feedback from all parties.
