"Why didn't we receive early warning information after the 7.9-magnitude earthquake in Myanmar?" Yunnan Provincial Earthquake Bureau responded
2025-05-09 source:CCTV.com

CCTV News: According to the Weibo of Yunnan Provincial Earthquake Bureau, Yunnan Provincial Earthquake Bureau responded to why there was no early warning information after the magnitude 7.9 earthquake in Myanmar: the earthquake early warning system can produce earthquake information of magnitude 4.0 or above that occurs within 50 kilometers of Yunnan Province and its surrounding areas. The magnitude 7.9 earthquake that occurred in Myanmar on March 28 was about 300 kilometers away from my country's nearest early warning station, and there was no earthquake early warning station website abroad. This situation exceeded the current response capacity of the earthquake early warning system, so the early warning system did not issue an early warning signal.
