CCTV News: Guilin is the best in the world. A clear and visible Li River connects the continuous green mountains on both sides, attracting countless Chinese and foreign tourists. Today's "I Come From the Grassroots" approaches Tang Jianwei, a member of the National People's Congress who has protected the Lijiang River for 26 years, and see how he "beautifies" the Lijiang River and unlocks the ecological traffic password.

My name is Tang Jianwei. I grew up by the Li River. People in Guilin are used to treating the Li River as a treasure. I have been engaged in the protection of the Li River for 26 years.

Previous tour rafts were mainly powered by traditional gasoline engines. First, the noise was relatively high, and the emission standards were relatively low. In the past two years, I have continuously mentioned the "oil-to-electricity" of Lijiang rafts, and changed the traditional gasoline engine rafts to pure electricity to promote it to adapt to the needs of Lijiang shipping.

Tang Jianwei: What are the reactions of tourists to pure electric-driven rafts?

Raft worker: I think tourists are much happier now than when they were riding oil rafts before. There is almost no noise throughout the journey, and the sound of running water can be heard.

In October 2024, all 1,210 tour rafts in Lijiang were "oil-to-electric". After this "oil-to-electricity conversion", the noise directly dropped from 90 decibels to 60 decibels, greatly improving tourists' experience and almost zero emissions.

Tang Jianwei: Take a look at what you do in your homestay. What are your plans, plans and ideas for this place in the future?

Village: We all have done all the power grid, wires and hardware. In the next step, we are preparing to focus on the appearance of villagers' houses and environmental sanitation.

For people here, they always have a special feeling for the Lijiang River. In fact, protecting the Li River will also allow the people along the coast to live a happy life. Take Dahebei Village opposite Xingping Town as an example. In 2019, the government organized an ecological restoration project on the Li River coastline, which directly discharged the villagers' original sewage into the Li River, damaged coastline and messy landscapes, and solved the problem of ecological restoration projects. After the improvement of the ecological environment, a large number of tourists have attracted to the village to travel. The number of tourists in 2019 was 140,000, and the number of tourists in 2024 has reached more than 900,000. The village felt the economic benefits brought by ecological environment protection, and now they have a strong awareness of ecological environment protection.

Tang Jianwei said that protecting the ecological environment of the Li River is actually looking for a balance point for protection and development, and striving to achieve that green waters and green mountains are gold and silver mountains.
