CCTV News: The Jinwan District of Zhuhai, Guangdong is located in the alluvial plains along the coast of the Pearl River Delta. Farmland soil generally faces salinization problems and crop growth difficulties. In order to solve this problem, the local government will continue to carry out concentrated and continuous restoration of arable land from 2022, and will control saline-alkali land through "good seeds + good methods + good techniques". At present, about 18,000 mu of saline-alkali land has been completed.

It is spring plowing season. At a rice planting base in Jinwan District, Zhuhai City, the reporter saw that more than 4,600 acres of rice were being transplanted, and the scene was busy. Last year, this rice field improved from saline-alkali land ushered in a bumper harvest, with the yields of early rice and late rice both per mu exceeding 700 kilograms. The successful improvement of this saline-alkali land has greatly increased the grain planting area and output in Jinwan District.

Lin Dekun, a technical director of a technology company in Zhuhai, said: "The improvement of saline-alkali land first reduces saline-alkali through fresh water dilution and other means to create a normal growth environment for seedlings emerge. Secondly, prevent salt return, and technology is required to protect the growth of seedlings. The other is to choose suitable varieties that can adapt to the growth of saline-alkali land. Finally, it is to increase yield through the application of good techniques and methods."

In recent years, the local government has comprehensively improved soil fertility through freshwater irrigation, adding sandy soil, and applying organic fertilizer. At the same time, combined with agricultural technologies such as breeding of excellent varieties and mechanized seedling cultivation, we will continue to expand the crop planting area and production capacity of saline-alkali land, turning saline-alkali land into fertile fields.

Huang Yingyi, deputy director of the Agriculture, Rural and Water Affairs Bureau of Jinwan District, Zhuhai City, said: "Last year, our district completed grain planting area exceeding 20,000 mu, an increase of nearly 120% year-on-year. With the continuous improvement of the fertility of this saline-alkali land, the yield of rice per mu in the saline-alkali land will also increase year by year."

On this basis, the local area also integrates scattered arable land and surrounding agricultural land to form concentrated and continuous high-quality arable land suitable for mechanized farming, becoming one of the rare "10,000 mu" arable land agglomeration area in the Pearl River Delta region. The current total construction scale is about 16,000 mu.
