Xinhua News Agency, Nanjing, March 10 (Reporter Chen Shengwei) The world's highest pumped storage power station - State Grid Xinyuan Jiangsu Jurong Pumped Storage Power Station Unit 3 was connected to the grid on the 10th to generate electricity. So far, including units 1 and 2 that have been put into operation, all three units of the power station have been put into operation. The current grid-connected power generation capacity has reached 675,000 kilowatts, and another large clean energy "regulator" has been added in the Yangtze River Delta region.
The reservoir dam on the power station is as high as 182.3 meters, making it the highest pumped storage power station in the world, playing the role of peak regulating and frequency regulation. When the power station is in a low power trough, the water pumps from the lower reservoir to the upper reservoir, turning it into potential energy and storage. When the power is peak, the potential energy is converted into electricity and sent to the power grid, realizing that "water goes to a high place and electricity is sent from the air", which is compared to the "power bank" of the power grid.
The Jurong Pumped Storage Power Station started construction in March 2017, installing 6 225,000 kilowatt reversible hydrowheel generator sets with a total installed capacity of 1.35 million kilowatts. "After all units are put into operation at the end of this year, the annual pumping capacity will be 1.8 billion kilowatt-hours and the annual power generation will be 1.35 billion kilowatt-hours. The power generated can meet the annual electricity consumption of about 360,000 households." Wang Chenhui, director of the Development Department of State Grid Zhenjiang Power Supply Company, introduced that by then the power station can save 140,000 tons of standard coal every year and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 349,000 tons.
