The Office of the Qing Dynasty’s ImperialCommissioner-Resident of Xizang was the first administrative headquarters established by the Qing government in Lhasa. It once served as both office and residence for officials, handling daily affairs and information exchanges.
Through this courtyard, Laura traces the historical connections between the central government and Xizang during the Qing Dynasty and their cultural influence on the region.“Standing here, you can feel how close the official compound was to the everyday life of the marketplace.” she says.
After being restored and opened to the public, this courtyard has become a cultural stop along Lhasa’s Barkhor Street, attracting both tourists and locals.
