Today (November 6), the first unit of CGN’s “zero-carbon” photovoltaic storage and thermal power demonstration project located in the Ngari region of Tibet was connected to the grid to generate electricity. This is the world’s highest grid-connected solar thermal power station, which will further enhance the Alibaba region’s clean energy supply security capabilities.

The project is located in Gar County, Ali Prefecture, Tibet, with an average altitude of 4,300 meters and a total installed capacity of 150,000 kilowatts. It consists of a 100,000 kilowatt photovoltaic power station and a 50,000 kilowatt photothermal power station. Different from ordinary photovoltaic power generation, this photothermal power station can convert the electricity generated by photovoltaics during the day into thermal energy, store it, and release the heat for power generation at night or when there is insufficient light, achieving continuous power supply day and night.

During the construction of the project, more than 500 local farmers and herdsmen were employed. Once fully completed and put into operation, the annual power generation is expected to be approximately 270 million kilowatt-hours, and the annual carbon dioxide emissions can be reduced by approximately 168,200 tons, providing support for ensuring energy supply and green and low-carbon development in the Ali region.
