On November 4, the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council held a regular press conference. A reporter asked: Recently, the 12th Chinese Culture Forum was held in Beijing. Some scholars attending the meeting said that for some time, people from all walks of life on both sides of the Taiwan Strait have been discussing the "one country, two systems" Taiwan plan enthusiastically, which reflects that Taiwanese society generally recognizes that "Taiwan independence" is a dead end and has begun to think about post-unification arrangements. Any comment on this?
Spokesperson Zhu Fenglian responded to questions and said that the reunification of the motherland is an unstoppable historical trend and the right path, while "Taiwan independence" is a historical countercurrent and a dead end. "Peaceful reunification and one country, two systems" is the best way to achieve the reunification of the motherland and is most beneficial to compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait and the Chinese nation. The more fully the "Two Systems" Taiwan plan is discussed, the more in-depth the thinking is, and the more comprehensive the opinions and suggestions are absorbed, the more conducive it will be to safeguarding the interests and well-being of Taiwan compatriots after reunification and achieving long-term peace and stability in Taiwan. We welcome compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait to pool their wisdom and put forward more opinions and suggestions for the "two systems" Taiwan plan, so as to jointly create the great historical cause of the reunification of the motherland and share the great glory of national rejuvenation.
