On the evening of the 14th, Beijing time, at the 77th International Executive Council Meeting of the International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage held in Marseille, France, the 2026 World Irrigation Engineering Heritage List was officially announced, and all four irrigation projects submitted by my country were successfully selected. So far, China's total number of world irrigation engineering heritages has reached 46.
There are 4 irrigation projects applied for in our country this time, namely:
Guangli Canal of Qinhe River in Henan Province
Gansu Tuolai River Oasis Irrigation System
Guangxin Huangsha Canal, Shangrao City, Jiangxi Province
Fujian Changtai Longjin Gupi Irrigation Project

△ Guangli Main Canal Head Gate
Qinhe Guangli Canal Located in the northwest of Henan Province, it was built in the Qin Dynasty and has a history of more than 2,200 years. It adopts the multi-canal-head and no-dam water diversion irrigation model. It is one of the few large-scale irrigation areas in China that completely retains the main structure of the Ming Dynasty irrigation water diversion project.Jiyuan and Jiaozuo irrigate 510,000 acres of fertile farmland, making them the main core grain production areas in Henan Province.

△ The Ming and Qing Hebei dam channels still in use (Tolai Hebei main channel water intake)
Taolai River Oasis Irrigation System Located in the middle of the Hexi Corridor, it was built in the Ming Dynasty and consists of three core parts: the Flood River Dongzi Canal, the Tuolai River Mainstream Canal System, and the Linshui River-Qingshui River Canal System. The total irrigated area is 947,800 acres, which is a typical representative of the oasis irrigation system in the arid areas of the Eurasian continent.

Guangxin Huangsha Canal is located in Shangrao City, Jiangxi Province. It was built in the Song Dynasty and is a model of low-impact development of small watersheds in ancient mountainous areas in my country.Distributed cascade development is adopted, and canals and ponds are built from lowlands to highlands from bottom to top, forming a gravity irrigation engineering system that irrigates more than 10,000 acres of farmland and nearly 10,000 acres of forestland.

Changtai Longjin Gupi Irrigation Project is located in Changtai District, Zhangzhou, Fujian Province. It was built in the Song Dynasty and has a history of more than 800 years. It is a typical model of "low dam + long vines and melons" on mountainous rivers along the southeast coast. The current irrigation area is 27,700 acres.
