Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, April 20 (Reporter Gu Yiping) Based on the first time my country's grain output exceeded 1.4 trillion jin in 2024, the "China Agricultural Outlook Report (2025-2034)" released by the Market Warning Expert Committee of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs on April 20 predicts that with the accelerated improvement of the level of agricultural science and technology development, my country's supply guarantee capacity for grain and important agricultural products will achieve a comprehensive improvement in quantity and quality in the next ten years, and the comprehensive benefits and competitiveness of agriculture will be significantly enhanced.

This was learned by the reporter at the 2025 Agricultural Outlook Conference hosted by the Institute of Agricultural Information, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences on the 20th.

The report focuses on 20 major agricultural products (categories), summarizes and reviews the market situation in 2024, and looks forward to the production, consumption, trade, price and other trends of these agricultural products in the next ten years.

The report predicts that my country's food and important agricultural products guarantee capacity will continue to be enhanced in 2025, and high-quality agricultural development will reach a new level. In terms of grain production, with the continuous increase in efforts to increase large-scale yields and farmers' enthusiasm for growing grain and local grain traction, the annual grain output is expected to reach 709 million tons, a slight increase over the previous year; among them, the output of rice, wheat and corn is expected to increase by 0.5%, 0.9% and 0.2% respectively over the previous year, and the soybean output will reach 21.17 million tons, an increase of 2.5% over the previous year.

The report also shows that my country's agricultural product consumption is expected to maintain a slow growth in 2025, and the trend of healthy and diversified consumption is more obvious. Grain consumption has increased slightly, the growth rate of consumption of poultry and aquatic products has slowed down, and the consumption demand for beef, mutton and dairy has weakened. At the same time, as the coordination between agricultural product trade and production continues to increase, under the conditions of increasing domestic output and slowing consumption growth, the import volume of bulk agricultural products is showing a trend of decreasing.

Looking forward to the next ten years, the report believes that with the accelerated improvement of the level of agricultural science and technology development and the accelerated cultivation and promotion of new varieties of high-yield and high-quality stress-resistant grain, my country's agricultural productivity will achieve a breakthrough leap, the comprehensive grain production capacity will steadily increase, the sowing area will be basically stable, and the increase in grain yield has become the key to increasing grain production, and the ability to prevent and resolve major risks and challenges is enhanced.

In addition, in the next ten years, with the steady development of my country's economy and the further improvement of residents' living standards, consumption of agricultural products such as vegetables, fruits, meat, milk and aquatic products will continue to upgrade, the demand for high-quality and characteristic will continue to rise, the trade structure of agricultural products will continue to be optimized, and the import sources will become more diversified.
