As early as January this year, Shanghai officially announced its efforts to support the relevant policies for car trade-in. At that time, the subsidy scope was stipulated as "small passenger cars registered in Shanghai under my name". This time the scope was further expanded to "small passenger cars registered in other provinces and cities under my name" to support more consumers to participate in replacement and updates.

Since the release of the policy update on April 12, many car stores have ushered in a wave of car viewing. In a car store in Yangpu District, Shanghai, many customers who came to see cars and test drives due to the expansion of car purchase subsidies.
The policy announced by the Shanghai Commerce Commission shows that the subsidy scope is from January 1 to December 31, 2025. Individual consumers purchase new new energy passenger cars of more than 100,000 yuan, and transfer their passenger cars registered in other provinces and cities under their name within the prescribed period, and give a one-time subsidy of 15,000 yuan; individual consumers purchase new fuel passenger cars of more than 100,000 yuan (including) of National VI b emission standards, and if they meet the conditions, they will be given a one-time subsidy of 13,000 yuan, which will save a lot of money for many families with replacement needs.

The reporter visited several auto stores and learned that the expansion of subsidies to foreign-licensed old cars this time has also driven the in-store passenger flow and transaction volume of auto stores.
Data shows that as of the end of 2024, there were about 1.05 million foreign-licensed cars stationed in Shanghai for a long time. This round of subsidies has expanded, mainly benefiting this group of foreign-licensed car owners who have been in Shanghai for a long time. The new cars that have been replaced can be sold in Shanghai and foreign-licensed. Cui Dongshu, secretary-general of the passenger car market information joint branch of the China Automobile Dealers Association, said that expanding the scope of subsidies has a good driving effect, driving the sales of tens of thousands or even nearly 100,000 cars, achieving the effect of driving the consumption of 10 billion yuan, and playing a good exemplary effect on the development of national consumption promotion.
