People's Daily, Beijing, April 13 (Reporter Wang Hao) Recently, the Yangtze River Water Conservancy Committee of the Ministry of Water Resources dispatched the Three Gorges Reservoir to implement spring irrigation and water replenishment dispatch, increased the discharge flow of the Three Gorges Reservoir, and effectively ensured the spring irrigation water demand in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River.
In the dry water period after the flood season in 2024 (December last year to April 9 this year), the reservoir group in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River has replenished 31.3 billion cubic meters of water to the middle and lower reaches. During the dry season in 2024, the precipitation in the Yangtze River Basin was less than 30%, of which nearly 40% of the precipitation in the middle and lower reaches were less than 40%; the natural incoming water in the basin was less than 40%, of which 10% of the natural incoming water in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River. The Yangtze River Commission coordinates the water use needs of all parties and rolls the reservoir group removal plan of the upper reaches of the Yangtze River every month to ensure the safety of water supply, power generation, shipping, and ecology in the basin. As of April 9, the control reservoir group in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River played a coordinated role in water replenishment, including 8 billion cubic meters of cascaded water replenishment in the lower reaches of the Jinsha River, 9.6 billion cubic meters of cascaded water replenishment in the Yalong River, 3.5 billion cubic meters of cascaded water replenishment in the Minjiang River (Dadu River), 2.5 billion cubic meters of cascaded water replenishment in the Jialing River, 6.4 billion cubic meters of cascaded water replenishment in the Three Gorges Reservoir, and 1.3 billion cubic meters of other cascaded water replenishment in the Wujiang River.
