The Beijing Meteorological Department issued important weather reminders on the night of April 9. Affected by the strengthening of the cold vortex moving eastward and southward, an extreme strong wind and heavy cooling weather process will occur in Beijing from the afternoon of the 11th to the 13th. The strong wind is extremely extreme, lasts for a long time, has a wide impact range and is highly disastrous. The daytime on the 12th is the strongest period of wind.

Lee Lei, chief forecaster of the Beijing Meteorological Observatory, introduced that during the day of the 10th, a cold vortex will be formed in Mongolia, moving to Beijing along the northwest-southeast direction at the night of the 11th, and then strengthening and slowly moving eastward. After the vortex, strong cold air continues to affect Beijing, bringing extreme windy weather.

According to reports, it is expected that around 17:00 on the 11th, northerly winds in western and northern Beijing will begin to increase, affecting the urban area at 20:00. The daytime during the 12th is the strongest period of wind. The average wind speed in the city is about level 6, with gusts of level 9 to 11 in the plains, gusts of level 11 to 13 in the western and northern regions, and local gusts of level 13 or above in the mountainous areas. The Beijing Meteorological Observatory will issue an orange warning signal for strong winds in advance on the morning of the 10th, with the warning period from 17:00 on the 11th to 20:00 on the 12th.

"It is expected that the wind will weaken from the night of the 12th to the day of the 13th, with an average wind speed of level 4 to 5, gusts of level 8 to 9, and gusts of level 9 or above in the western and northern regions." Lei Lei introduced that the Beijing Meteorological Observatory will promptly downgrade and issue yellow warning signals for strong winds, with the warning period from 20:00 on the 12th to 20:00 on the 13th. The wind power weakened significantly after nightfall on the 13th, and the impact of the strong wind ended on the afternoon of the 14th.

In addition, according to the meteorological department, the highest temperature in Beijing will drop to 14℃ on the 12th, with a 24-hour cooling rate of 13℃. During strong winds from the evening of the 11th to the 12th, there will be sand or dust.

The meteorological department reminds that during the period of strong winds, all outdoor construction and entertainment activities should be stopped, organized outdoor sports or gathering activities should be stopped, and primary and secondary schools, kindergartens, and relevant training institutions should stop outdoor activities. The public avoids open-air activities and strictly prohibits all outdoor fire use. Citizens do not travel unless necessary, and vehicles and personnel do not stay under tall buildings, billboards, temporary buildings or big trees.

"Please pay close attention to the issuance of strong wind warning signals from the Beijing Meteorological Observatory and prepare for the prevention and response of extreme strong winds." Lei Lei said. (Reporter Tian Chenxu)
