Ministry of Commerce spokesperson on US threatening to escalate tariffs on China
2025-05-11 source:Xinhuanet

China noticed that on April 7, Eastern Time, the United States threatened to further impose 50% tariffs on China, and China firmly opposed this. If the US escalates tariff measures, China will resolutely take countermeasures to safeguard its rights and interests.

The US imposed so-called "reciprocal tariffs" on China without any basis and is a typical unilateral bullying practice. The countermeasures China has taken are to safeguard its own sovereignty, security and development interests and maintain normal international trade order, which is completely legitimate. The US threat of escalating tariffs on China is a mistake and it has once again exposed the blackmail nature of the US, and China will never accept this. If the US insists on doing its own thing, China will definitely accompany you to the end.

China reiterates that there is no winner in the trade war and there is no way out for protectionism. Pressure and threats are not the right way to deal with China. China urges the US to immediately correct its wrong practices, cancel all unilateral tariff measures against China, stop economic and trade suppression on China, and properly resolve differences through equal dialogue with China on the basis of mutual respect.
