Hello everyone! I am Zou Bin, and I am honored to share my growth story with you here.
From "small worker" to "craftsman", I used my "silly spirit" to build the first brick of my life. I was born in a small mountain village in Xinhua, Hunan. My family has been farmers for generations. I followed my father to work as a small worker and learned to build walls when I was very young. At that time, I was paid by quantity. The more I built, the more wages I had. But as long as I felt that the building was not beautiful, I would push it down and rebuild it. My colleagues all laughed at me as being "stupid", but I always felt that "you must have your own standards" when working. If you persist, you will definitely gain something! It is precisely because of this "silly" spirit that my masonry level stands out. Thinking about it now, this may be the beginning of my understanding of the "craftsman spirit".
In 2014, I was recommended by the labor service manager to participate in the "Super Ying Cup" masonry skills competition held by China Construction Fifth Bureau, and won the first place in the youth group. Looking back, this is the first turning point in my life. At that time, two choices were placed in front of me: one was to accept the recommendation of China Construction Group, participate in the 8-month free training, and strive to select the masonry project of the World Skills Competition. The second is to continue to build walls on the construction site, earning tens of thousands of yuan a month. Whether to stay on the construction site to make money or to fight for an uncertain goal, I made a decision that seemed a bit "silly" at the time - to return to school and participate in the training camp.
From the "work shed" to the "world arena", I use my resilience to build the confidence of Chinese craftsmen. The most half of the year I participated in the training camp was a time that was both difficult and fulfilling in my life. Faced with theoretical shortcomings such as geometry and graphical calculations, I once again experienced the "sense panic" in the fields I thought I was good at. But I was not willing to give in - I was not familiar with the theoretical knowledge, so I compiled the formula into a rumor and kept it in my pocket and recited it repeatedly; if the graphic data is not accurate, I built a wall and pushed it down and rebuilt it. During those days, my hands were grinding blood blisters, and my clothes were always soaked in sweat, but I always held my heart: "We must bring glory to the country."
Hard work pays off. Finally, in 2015, at the 43rd World Skills Competition, I won the masonry project victory award, achieving a zero breakthrough in this award in China. At that moment, I had another understanding of the spirit of craftsmanship, "We must accept challenges with full resilience and pursue the ultimate with full patience"!
From "building walls" to "building hearts", I use my responsibilities to build the mission of workers in the new era. After returning from the competition, I became a project quality manager. In 2018, I volunteered to participate in the "first place for targeted poverty alleviation" Shibadong Village's appearance improvement and transformation project. Time is tight and the task is arduous. We are facing the high temperature of 38 degrees during the day, and at night, we use the headlights to turn on the lights to continue working. When the villagers smiled at the brand new wall, I felt particularly fulfilled and worthy.
This year marks my eighth year of re-electing as a National People's Congress representative. Over the past eight years, I have compiled the small matters that my colleagues are concerned about into more than 10 suggestions, each of which has received attention and response from relevant national departments. This makes me more convinced that every worker is the master of the country, and every effort can be gathered into a force to promote social progress!
Now, I am serving as the quality director of the Changsha Airport expansion and expansion project of the China Construction Fifth Bureau General Contracting Company, the national "14th Five-Year Plan" Construction Project, China Construction Fifth Bureau General Contracting Company. Looking back, I grew from a young man in a mountain village to a National People's Congress representative, and transformed from a "small worker" on the construction site to a "big country craftsman". It is the cultivation of the Party and the country that gave me the confidence to pursue my dreams, the belief of the "craftsman spirit" that made me stick to the ordinary, and the support of millions of workers that made me grow up in my responsibility.
Young friends, what is the spirit of craftsmanship?
It is not an unattainable "myth", but a persistence in doing one thing, loving one thing, and doing one thing to the extreme;
It is not an illusory "slogan", but a persistence in treating small things as big things and repetition as cultivation;
It is not a person's "walking alone", but a spirit of the times that thousands of workers use their hands to support them together!
General Secretary Xi Jinping reminded us at the symposium of grassroots representatives in Changsha: "Start from one bit by bit, take small things as big things, do what we are doing well, and rely on hard work to achieve our own wonderful life and a bright future together." Today, I want to give this sentence to every young friend, let us use our hands to "build" our own life height and become the "big country craftsmen" in the new era.
