Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, March 19 (Reporter Xie Xiyao) The reporter learned from the Ministry of Commerce on the 19th that as of March 18, my country's electric bicycles have sold 2.044 million old cars and exchanged for new cars, driving new car sales of 5.61 billion yuan.
The work progress is constantly accelerating. From September to December 2024, my country's electric bicycles were replaced by a total of 1.38 million units in exchange for new electric bicycles, with an average of 11,000 units per day. Since 2025, my country has replaced 27,000 electric bicycles with old ones per day. Among them, 156,000 vehicles were replaced in January 2025, 863,000 vehicles were replaced in February, and 1.025 million vehicles were replaced from March 1 to 18.
The contribution to benefiting people's livelihood continues to increase. From the consumer side, more than 2 million consumers have enjoyed the policy of ex-new electric bicycles since the beginning of this year, with a total of more than 1.2 billion yuan in subsidies applied for, with an average of 610 yuan per person. From the sales perspective, more than 50,000 sales stores have participated in the trade-in of electric bicycles this year, most of which are individual business owners and small and micro enterprises, with an average sales of 107,000 yuan per store.
The security protection role is more prominent. Since the e-bike trade-in work was launched in September 2024, more than 3.42 million old cars have been sold nationwide through trade-in, of which more than 90% of new cars are powered by lead-acid batteries. By replacing old electric bicycles with high-risk risks into qualified new cars, we will effectively promote the resolution of existing risks and hidden dangers.
