CCTV News: Zhiping She Ethnic Township is located in the southwest of Ninghua County, Sanming City, Fujian Province. It is rich in bamboo. The local handmade papermaking history has a long history. It has begun to cultivate bamboo papermaking in the Song Dynasty, and is known as "Yukuang Paper Township" and "Paper City Management Ping". The vast sea of bamboo has nurtured ancient papermaking skills that have been passed down for thousands of years. The jade buckles made are of excellent quality and enjoy the reputation of "a reference to the beauty of the sky" and are famous at home and abroad.

The Paper Capital Zhiping Pavilion, located in Zhiping She Ethnic Township, Ninghua County, Sanming City, Fujian Province, is a skill display and experience place for the Fujian provincial intangible cultural heritage "Yukuang Paper Making Craft". It welcomes more than 30,000 tourists and study teams every year.

Yukuang paper was introduced to Ninghua in the Song Dynasty and is one of the famous Chinese papers. Because of its warm and moist nature, this paper is widely used in writing, painting and printing.
Chen Yao, associate professor at the School of History and Cultural Heritage, Xiamen University, introduced that the raw materials made of jade buckle paper are very simple, namely bamboo, lime and clean mountain spring water, which rely purely on manual quality control.

The unique characteristics of jade buckle paper come from its unique production process. First, fresh and unleaved bamboo should be selected as raw material. This bamboo is between bamboo shoots and bamboo, and is called bamboo syrup by the locals. It has moderate softness and hardness, and its fiber thickness and hardness are more suitable for papermaking. During the production process, the bamboo syrup must be processed in pre-processing of cutting off the cylinder, peeling, and slice sectioning, and then marinated in lime water for about half a year. This step is also the key to excellent papermaking.

Hu Lanshan, a craftsman of jade buckle paper, said that putting bamboo buckle bundles into the lake pond is called lake; using lime according to proportion, generally a load of paper costs about 70 kilograms of lime. Lime is alkaline and can soften and rot the fibers of bamboo buckle, which generally takes about 80 days.
Yukuang paper can be preserved for hundreds of years and is a first-class paper for classical printing, genealogy revision, and document archives in ancient times. In the Ninghua County Revolutionary Memorial Hall, the 1934 jade-button paper print "Interim Tax Rules of the Soviet Republic of China" is still displayed.

Advisor Qiu Xiaohong, a commentator of Ninghua County Revolutionary Memorial Hall, introduced that the "Interim Tax Rules of the Soviet Republic of China" is the first tax law in Red China. The book displayed in the museum is completely preserved, and the cover is Ninghua jade buckle paper.
To this day, jade buckle paper is still an important carrier for carrying intangible cultural heritage. Qiu Hengyong, the local provincial intangible cultural heritage wood movable type printing inheritor, has used jade buckle paper and wood movable type to print local chronicles and genealogies for generations, recording the stories of Ninghua and even the entire northwestern Fujian region.

According to Qiu Hengyong, the genealogy on the exhibition board was revised during the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty and has a history of more than 100 years. It is still very clear now, mainly because it is printed with wooden movable type and jade buckle paper. Jade buckle paper has several characteristics such as good water absorption and strong toughness. The printed characters can be kept for hundreds of years without fading.
In Qiu Hengyong's hands, the combination of jade buckle paper and wood movable type has long been more than limited to its former field. He has used jade buckle paper to print hundreds of excellent traditional Chinese cultural works such as "The Rules of Disciples" and "Thousand Character Classics" and are sold well at home and abroad.

In order to better inherit Huahe and develop jade buckle paper, Ninghua County has built a jade buckle paper intangible cultural heritage training experience center-Zhidu Zhiping Pavilion, which regularly organizes primary and secondary school students to participate in traditional intangible cultural heritage research and study activities, repairs many traditional paper dormitories, and selects many intangible cultural heritage inheritors of jade buckle paper manufacturing skills, and encourages and guides the jade buckle paper industry to go out of Ninghua and to the world. Zou Weiwei, director of the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau of Ninghua County, Fujian Province, said that in the future, on the basis of protecting traditional production techniques, we will actively introduce and cultivate upstream and downstream industries related to jade buckle paper, develop tourism products and routes with the theme of jade buckle paper, inject new vitality into traditional techniques, and increase the popularity and added value of jade buckle paper.
