CCTV News: According to the WeChat official account of "Guangdong Water Conservancy", March 1, 2025 is the official opening of the Dongjiang-Shenzhen Water Supply Project (hereinafter referred to as "Dongshen Water Supply Project") and the 60th anniversary of Guangdong's water supply to Hong Kong. Over the past 60 years, the rushing Dongjiang River water has nourished the people along the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the vast number of Hong Kong compatriots. The cumulative water supply has reached 67.1 billion cubic meters, of which 30 billion cubic meters of water supply to Hong Kong, accounting for nearly 80% of the total freshwater consumption in Hong Kong, equivalent to more than two Xinfeng River reservoirs.
This large-scale water diversion project across the river basin, like a life link, fundamentally changed the long-term development dilemma of Hong Kong's lack of fresh water and built a solid water security guarantee in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
