CCTV News: A spokesperson for the Ministry of Commerce answered reporters' questions about Canada's sanctions on Chinese companies on the grounds of involvement in Russia.

Q: On February 24, the Canadian government issued a statement imposing sanctions on 76 foreign entities and individuals that provide support for dual-use items to Russia, including 20 Chinese companies. What is the Ministry of Commerce’s response to this?

A: We have noticed this situation. China is strongly dissatisfied with this and firmly opposes it.

China has always opposed unilateral sanctions without a basis for international law and authorized by the United Nations Security Council, and emphasized that relevant countries shall not harm the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises, institutions and individuals in handling the Ukraine issue, including the right to carry out normal trade, investment and financial cooperation. The unilateral practice of Canadian sanctions on Chinese companies undermines international economic and trade rules and order, and damages the security and stability of the global industrial chain and supply chain.

China urges Canada to stop its wrong practices immediately. China will take necessary measures to resolutely defend the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies.
