Strictly observing the Party’s discipline is to practice and to be conscious. General Secretary Xi Jinping emphasized: "Strengthening the Party's discipline construction is a regular task. We must guide Party members and cadres to transform external discipline into self-discipline and internalize it into daily use without realizing the rules of words and deeds." The implementation of discipline depends not only on external compulsory constraints, but also on the individual's internalization of external constraints into self-requirements. Compared with external discipline, self-discipline is more inherently binding.
Marxism believes that proletarian party discipline is based on the awareness and common revolutionary ideals of the proletarian vanguard. Our Party attached great importance to the Party’s discipline construction at the beginning of its founding. During the Yan'an period, Comrade Mao Zedong pointed out: "Party discipline is compulsory; but at the same time, it must be based on the consciousness of Party members and cadres." In October 2024, General Secretary Xi Jinping pointed out when visiting the Gu Wenchang Memorial Hall in Dongshan County, Zhangzhou City, Fujian Province: "To learn from Comrade Gu Wenchang, you must not only be respectful, but also learn from the good, be a person and govern like him." Gu Wenchang once taught his children like this: "I am in charge of forestry. If I make a table, I will make dozens or hundreds of them. If I make a small mistake, I will make big mistakes below. As a leader, you must first wash your hands and straighten your back!" Gu Wenchang won the "respect" in the heart with the people.
The high degree of unity and centralization of an organization cannot be separated from the universal self-discipline of all members of the organization based on the common goals of struggle. It is far from enough to rely solely on external constraints in discipline. Only by taking common goals as the guide and building a solid foundation for ideals and beliefs can we truly transform external discipline into self-discipline. Ideals and beliefs are the spiritual pillar of the Chinese Communists. Discipline without ideals cannot be reliable, and ideals without discipline cannot last. Only by building a solid foundation of ideals, cultivating belief and determination, organically combining ideals and discipline, always taking the realization of communism as the highest ideal, taking seeking happiness for the Chinese people and rejuvenation for the Chinese nation as the original mission, and turning discipline consciousness into an important part of party spirit cultivation can we make abiding by the party’s discipline and abide by political rules become the conscious choice of every party member from the heart.
"If you want to know straightness, you must have a standard; if you want to know squareness, you must have rules." With ideals, you must also have discipline to achieve it. The reason why Party discipline is necessary is that not all Party members can strictly demand and restrain themselves. Self-discipline is an awareness based on external laws. Only strict external laws can form broad self-discipline, and to form conscious discipline, it is the prerequisite to learn discipline, knowing discipline, knowing discipline, and abiding discipline. Party members and cadres must firmly establish a sense of discipline and rules, know the boundaries and understand the bottom line, use the Party rules and regulations to correct their thoughts and actions, understand what the Party’s discipline and rules are, figure out what they can and cannot do, and imprint the compliance with rules and regulations in their hearts, so that iron discipline can be transformed into the daily habits and conscious compliance of Party members and cadres.
Those who plant trees must cultivate their roots, and those who plant virtue must cultivate their hearts. Moral cultivation is the basis of self-discipline. Self-discipline is the fine tradition and noble character of the Chinese Communists. Jiao Yulu never lets his children "watch the play". Yang Shanzhou sticks to the countryside all his life and pays his own food expenses on business trips... Countless Communists set an example and plays an example in self-discipline. At the same time, it is no secret that in reality, there are a few party members and cadres who abandon their original aspirations and missions, violate the party rules and regulations, work for materials, and become corrupt and degenerate. They use the power granted by the party and the people as a means to seek personal gain, and eventually fall into the abyss of corruption. For Party members and cadres, discipline is a "tight curse" and a "tale". Only by learning from the good, learning from the case, consciously looking at the mirror with the rules of the Party, dressing up in a correct manner, and laying a solid foundation of self-discipline, can the Party's discipline be engraved in the heart, internalize it into the principles of words and deeds, and externalize it into daily habits.
Turning external discipline into self-discipline is not a one-day effort, but must be persistent and long-term, and often benchmark the standards of party discipline, calibrate the standards of thought, adjust the rudder of behavior, tighten the strings of work style, constantly enhance political determination, discipline determination, moral determination, and corruption determination, insist on starting from daily cultivation and starting from the details of small things, so that constraints become conscious, and always maintain the political character of the Communists.
