Transform from a farm stay to a new homestay—New Year's events in Jinyun Mountain, Chongqing

"There is no need to lose the chicken soup for killing the country now. There must be one fish. Are the guests' tools to make dumplings enough..." In Jinyun Village, Chengjiang Town, Beibei District, Chongqing, the owner of the "Jinxianju" homestay, Liu Wu, is busy replenishing ingredients for the Spring Festival holiday, and the phone ringtone for consultation and booking rings from time to time.

"The transformation of farmhouses into homestays is the most correct decision in 2024." Liu Wu's family is one of the more than 20 farmers who signed the renovation of Jinyun Mountain Rural Ecological B&B Construction Project. "We were the first to sign and the first to open the business." From signing, starting construction to opening, the transformation of "Jinxianju" has given many villagers confidence - the customer was fully booked on the first day of opening, with nearly 10,000 yuan in income on the same day.

The Jinyun Mountains standing on the banks of the Jialing River are vast, building a green barrier for the central urban area of Chongqing. Since 2024, Beibei District has carried out centralized upgrading and transformation of farmhouses outside the Jinyun Mountain core area and buffer zone through "government guidance, villagers' self-construction, and professional team participation", and explored a path of ecological value transformation with villagers as the main body.

"The transformation follows the principle of voluntary voluntary, and the people invest, build, and operate on their own. The government invests in a professional team to design and coordinate financial support, so as to promote the quality and expansion of Jinyun Mountain B&B industry." Hu Yishan, director of the Beibei District Cultural and Tourism Committee, introduced.

Chen Zhen, secretary of the party branch of Jinyun Village, said that four homestays have opened business in the near future, and strive to achieve the upgrading of nearly 80 farmhouses by the end of this year.

Walking into the "Jin Xianju", the bamboo gate, the grass pavilion, the chirping spring, and the Shixi Banqiao complement each other. The fragrance of citrus and the fragrance of pine needles show the quaint pastoral style. There is no sign that this place was a traditional farmhouse a year ago.

Liu Wu has been operating a farmhouse in Jinyun Mountain for more than 20 years. Initially, in order to compete for customers, everyone stopped the price at the same time. The operating model of low unit price and low quality made the villagers and tourists dissatisfied.

Tourists need high-quality supply, and indigenous people need to see changes, which is a test for homestay designers. To this end, the design team chose a construction model with villagers as the main body, explored the villagers' personalities and needs, and created a "one household, one characteristic" homestay business format.

"After the renovation, we only had 8 rooms, but our income was nearly twice the previous one, because the average customer price increased. There were 4 rooms for guests on New Year's Eve, and the passenger flow was expected to increase in the next few days." Liu Wu's son Liu Hao said.

Walking into another "Shanyin" B&B, "There are flowers everywhere you can see" is the feature here. Ren Wenqiao, the owner of the "Shanyin" B&B and a post-90s generation, has been working outside. Seeing her brand new home after the renovation, she took the initiative to return home to manage the B&B with her parents. The government also invited professional homestay operation teams to teach everyone step by step to match dishes and tableware and operate new media accounts.

Ren Wenqiao said: "In the past, we relied on the mountains to eat, but now everyone shares the green mountains and life is getting better and better." (Reporter Zhou Wentao)
