CCTV News: According to statistics from the China Item Coding Center, in 2024, 21.639 million new consumer goods were added nationwide, an increase of 14.1% over the previous year, involving 323,000 enterprises; the total annual new consumer goods exceeded 20 million for the first time since 2020, reaching the highest value in the past five years. This reflects that under the promotion of national consumption policies, residents' consumption potential has been released and the vitality of the consumer market has been significantly enhanced. As of December 31, 2024, the total number of consumer goods nationwide reached 211.106 million, an increase of 11.4% over the previous year, covering social consumer goods in hundreds of industries such as food and beverage, clothing, shoes and hats, medical and health care, household appliances, cultural and educational supplies, home furnishing and building materials, involving 978,000 enterprises.
From the category perspective, upgraded household appliances were strongly driven by the policy of trade-in, with outstanding growth performance, of which 15,000 new refrigerators, an increase of 30.8% over the previous year; 6,000 new washing machines, an increase of 13.7%; 27,000 new air conditioners, an increase of 79.1%; 48,000 new computers, an increase of 63.8%; 15,000 new water heaters, an increase of 132.4%; 17,000 new household stoves, an increase of 95.5%; 8,000 new range hoods, an increase of 200.7%. Consumer products of "eating", "wearing" and "use" that meet residents' daily needs maintained continued growth, of which 2.213 million new types of grain, oil and food were added, an increase of 16.0%; 496,000 new types of beverages were added, an increase of 17.8%; 8.575 million new types of clothing, an increase of 13.7%; 2.528 million new types of daily necessities were added, an increase of 26.7%. The living and travel categories that improve the living environment have declined, with 260,000 new types of construction and decoration materials, a decrease of 5.0%; 396,000 new types of automobile parts and supplies, a decrease of 10.9%; 6,000 new types of metal materials, a decrease of 61.9%.
From the regional perspective, the three major regions in the eastern, central and western regions increased significantly in 2024, with 17.802 million species, 2.036 million species and 1.275 million species respectively, an increase of 12.7%, 35.3% and 15.6% respectively.
