CCTV News: According to the WeChat official account of "China Water Conservancy", since November 2024, the estuary of the Pearl River has encountered many rounds of strong salty waves. The Ministry of Water Resources has organized and implemented three emergency water schedulings for Pearl River salty and lightweight, and has replenished a total of 2.06 billion cubic meters of water to the downstream, effectively ensuring the water supply safety of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area such as Macao and Zhuhai. It is predicted that around the Spring Festival holiday, the natural water in the Xijiang and Beijiang rivers in the Pearl River Basin is still relatively dry, and it is a time of astronomical tide, and the salty tide activity in the estuary is relatively strong. At the same time, ships engaged in water transportation on the Xijiang Shipping Main Line have entered the peak period of return to the festival, and the navigation pressure has increased.
In order to alleviate the pressure on water supply and Xijiang shipping in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area during the Spring Festival, the Ministry of Water Resources launched a new round of emergency water volume scheduling for Pearl River pressure salty and lightweight. During the dispatch period, backbone water projects such as Datengxia, Changzhou Water Conservancy Hub, Xijin Hydropower Station, and Beijiang Feilaixia Water Conservancy Hub, are linked to increase the discharge flow, and are expected to replenish 430 million cubic meters of water downstream, which can effectively suppress the salty tide of the Pearl River Estuary, create favorable conditions for Zhuhai and other places to extract freshwater to supplement local reservoir water storage, and ensure that water supply is safe during the Spring Festival in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area; at the same time, it will significantly improve the navigation efficiency of Xijiang, effectively alleviate navigation pressure, and help the "way home" during the Spring Festival.
