On January 21, 2025, the Lancang-Mekong Comprehensive Law Enforcement Security Cooperation Center (hereinafter referred to as the "Lancang-Mekong Law Enforcement Cooperation Center") held a meeting of senior officials in Kunming, Yunnan. High-level officials from the National Police Agency of the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Public Security of China, the Ministry of Public Security of Laos and the Ministry of National Defense, the Ministry of Interior, the Royal Thai Police, and the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam attended the meeting. Under the auspices of the secretariat of the Lancang-Mekong Law Enforcement Cooperation Center, they conducted in-depth discussions on important issues of regional security governance.
During the meeting, the delegates shared the challenges faced by their respective countries in the field of law enforcement and their experience in carrying out regional international law enforcement cooperation. They highly praised the important role played by the Lancang-Mekong Law Enforcement Cooperation Center in regional security governance, and agreed to deepen pragmatic cooperation in the fields of intelligence sharing, joint actions, capacity building, emergency coordination and liaison for public safety incidents under the framework of the Lancang-Mekong Law Enforcement Security Cooperation Mechanism, and work together to combat prominent cross-border crimes.
The meeting pointed out that there have been continuous vicious cases of online gambling and electronic fraud in the Thailand-Myanmar border area, threatening and harming the vital interests of citizens of all countries, and all parties attach great importance to it. The representatives of the six countries unanimously expressed that they would strengthen all-round cooperation, carry out special actions, take strong measures, resolutely crack down on telecommunications and network fraud and its derivative crimes, make every effort to coordinate and rescue trapped people, arrest criminal group leaders, destroy telecommunications and fraud dens, provide a safe environment for the people of Lancang-Mekong to communicate with each other and maintain a good order of exchanges and cooperation between Lancang-Mekong countries.
During the meeting, the secretariat of the Lancang-Mekong Law Enforcement Cooperation Center also organized senior officials from China, Myanmar and Thailand to hold a special meeting to exchange opinions on cooperation in eradicating Myanmar's Myanmar telecommunications dens, develop countermeasures, and reach a positive consensus.
