Sun Meijun previously served as deputy secretary of the Henan Provincial Party Committee and secretary of the Political and Legal Affairs Committee. She is an alternate member of the 20th Central Committee.

Public information shows that Sun Meijun was born in July 1965 in Kaijiang, Sichuan. She has worked in the National Bureau of Statistics, the State Council Research Office, the State Council Food Safety Committee Office, and the former State Food and Drug Administration. In 2017, she served as the former deputy director and member of the Party Leadership Group of the State Food and Drug Administration.
In the 2018 Party and state institutional reform, the State Administration for Market Regulation was established, and Sun Meijun continued to serve as a member of the Party Leadership Group and Deputy Director of the General Administration.
In December 2020, Sun Meijun was appointed as a member of the Standing Committee of the Beijing Municipal Party Committee and successively served as Minister of the United Front Work Department and Director of the Organization Department of the Municipal Party Committee. In November 2023, she served as deputy secretary of the Henan Provincial Party Committee, and later served as secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Political and Legal Affairs Committee until she took office this time.
