[Global Times Special Correspondent in Hong Kong Ye Lan] In response to the fraud of many mainland students studying in Hong Kong, some Hong Kong universities have launched anti-fraud questionnaires and require students to fill in them. The Hong Kong police also plan to cooperate with relevant mainland departments, or require mainland students who go to Hong Kong to complete anti-fraud questionnaires before they can obtain a visa, so as to increase students' vigilance.

Anti-fraud questionnaire totals 31 multiple-choice questions

According to the Hong Kong "01" website on January 20, the Hong Kong University Student Development and Resources Center recently sent an email to students under the title "Joint Combating Cash Fraud: Protecting Students from the University of Hong Kong". The email was accompanied by a picture warning "A stranger called, claiming to be an official, you want to pay the money, hang up!" and wrote the contact information of the center, as well as the 24-hour hotline of the "Anti-Fraud Coordination Center" "Anti-Fraud Easy 18222" in the police. The email said that more than 60 Hong Kong college students have recently become victims of fraud cases. The school requires students to fill in the anti-fraud questionnaire provided by the Hong Kong Police Department from January 20 to February 10. If the questionnaire is not completed, they will not be able to enter the library and other school facilities.

The questionnaire has 31 multiple-choice questions, covering telephone fraud, investment fraud, shopping fraud and other methods. Questions include "The fraud process of online love investment fraud cases?" "What is the reason why scammers often package them with the opposite sex with good appearance and actively chat with you?" "Why do scammers want you to package themselves with professionals?" "What is the purpose of scammers want you to invest in fake investment software?" and "In addition to letting you invest in fake investment software, how will scammers cheat your property in online love fraud cases?" The questionnaire also requires students to answer common methods and motivations of scammers, such as "Someone calls you and calls himself a mainland or Hong Kong official, and you need to cooperate. Which of the following are the scenarios you may encounter?" At the same time, the questionnaire teaches "four needs and five don'ts", including verifying the other party's identity, hanging up the phone immediately, calling 18222, never answering unfamiliar calls, do not enter personal sensitive data on suspicious websites, etc., and will also ask students about their willingness to join the police WeChat group.

Hong Kong University is the second eight major institutions in Hong Kong that require students to fill out police anti-fraud questionnaires after the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Hong Kong's "01" website said that in the past few years, a large number of students were deceived every year, and suffered heavy losses. Therefore, before the start of school last year, students must fill out anti-fraud questionnaires, and if they fail to complete, they will not be able to obtain a student ID. According to reports, after this arrangement, the fraud cases of PolyU students were greatly reduced, which shows that they are effective.
