A few years ago, Yan Hongmin's family was not doing well: her husband got a serious illness, spent all his savings and was burdened with debts, her parents-in-law were in poor health, and her family had to take care of 3 acres of farmland and children going to school... But the county could not find a suitable job, so Yan Hongmin had to go to Zhejiang to work. Under 40, wrinkles climbed onto her face.

Yan Hongmin's difficulties are also the bottleneck in Shangqiu City's promotion of the comprehensive revitalization of rural areas. Farmers need to take care of their families, farm, and make money, but they can’t find a suitable job at their doorstep. What should they do?

In winter, when you walk into Sui County, the shoe elements can be seen everywhere. A few years ago, shoe factories in Jinjiang, Zhejiang and other places came to Sui County to recruit workers, while Sui County cadres went to Jinjiang and Wenling to recruit enterprises. Song Dongmo, deputy secretary of the county party committee and acting county magistrate, introduced: "Seize the opportunity of taking over industrial transfer, Sui County will build a special team, provide funds, and strengthen investment, and build a shoemaking industrial park of the "Central Plains Shoe Capital".

The shoe factory is located in Sui County, and employees can earn about 6,000 yuan a month. When they heard about this, Yan Hongmin returned to his hometown to join the shoe factory. What made her happy was that the factory also paid 2,700 yuan in the first month of training.

There are also worries: the factory is in the north of the city, 15 kilometers away from home. "It rains and snows, so you have to go there, otherwise you won't get the full attendance award." Yan Hongmin said.

Now, this trouble is gone. In 2023, the county vigorously guided the shoe factory to build an assistance workshop in the village. At the end of that year, Henan Fusheng Shoe Industry built an upper production workshop that can accommodate 120 people in Tangmiao Village. Yan Hongmin was happy: he arrived at the factory in 10 minutes, saving labor, money and time.

Yan Hongmin is not the only one who is happy. The county also guides enterprises to promote the "family workshop" model. Every morning, delivery workers deliver uppers and shoelaces to villagers' homes, so that the elderly can make money at home.

At present, there are 78 "village-level satellite factories" such as shoemaking and electronics in Sui County, and nearly 80,000 migrant workers have returned to their hometowns and found employment at their doorsteps.

Sui County Shoemaking is a microcosm of the rural industrial revitalization in Shangqiu City.

Zhecheng County Superhard Materials, Xiayi County Textile and Clothing, Minquan County Refrigeration Equipment, Ningling County Compound Fertilizer Processing... In recent years, Shangqiu City has cultivated 3 trillion yuan and 11 billion yuan industrial clusters, and 10 counties, cities and districts have cultivated leading industries with their own characteristics, driving employment and income growth for more than 600,000 people. As of the end of November 2024, Shangqiu City has built 888 employment assistance workshops, and the number of people working in poverty alleviation in the city has reached 241,500. In the first three quarters of 2024, the per capita disposable income of rural residents in Shangqiu City was 11,724 yuan, an increase of 7.2% year-on-year.
