Original title: Influenza viruses are the most acute respiratory infections in children recently. What should parents pay attention to?
China Youth Daily Client Beijing, January 5 (China Youth Daily·China Youth Network reporter Liu Changrong) "It is currently the peak period for respiratory infections in children. The pathogens (organs) are mainly viruses and Mycoplasma pneumoniae, and the viruses are mainly influenza viruses." At a press conference held by the National Health Commission this afternoon, Wang Quan, chief physician of Beijing Children's Hospital, said.
Recently, the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention released the national sentinel monitoring of acute respiratory infectious diseases in the 52nd week of 2024 (December 23-29). The results showed that influenza was generally in a seasonal epidemic period, and the positive rate of influenza viruses increased rapidly. Among them, the positive rate of influenza viruses in outpatient and emergency influenza-like cases nationwide increased by 6.2% compared with last week; the level of influenza activity between different provinces was different, and the rise in northern provinces was slightly obvious, but it was still lower than the same period last year.
Fever is the main manifestation after influenza infection in children
According to monitoring results, among outpatient and emergency flu-like cases in children aged 0-14, the pathogen with the highest positive rate is the influenza virus. Wang Quan introduced that after children are infected with influenza, fever is the main manifestation, but it will also be accompanied by some symptoms of general discomfort, including general muscle pain, headache, etc. In addition, there will be some respiratory symptoms, including coughing, runny nose, sneezing, sore throat, etc.
It is worth noting that "children are a little different from adults. Children are more likely to show nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain or poor appetite than adults after suffering from influenza." Wang Quan said that overall, most children have acute and self-limiting flu. Generally, the fever will be about 2 to 3 days, and the course of the disease will be cured in about one week.
