Recently, a large number of "spherical cystosaccharida" appeared on the beaches of several coastal cities in Guangdong Province. At the same time, it triggered a red tide, and relevant departments reminded citizens to reduce hydrophilic activities in the near future.
From the end of December 2024, water color abnormalities have been discovered in the waters of Zhuhai City. After inspection, it was found that areas with black and brown water color abnormalities have been found on many sites on the coast of Zhuhai, which are scattered. After continuous tracking and monitoring, red tides occurred in the coastal waters of Zhuhai, resulting in the algae species that occurred in this red tide were spherical Pyramidalis, which has gradually weakened and subsided.

Song Zhimin, engineer of Zhuhai Marine Center, Ministry of Natural Resources: Its formation is multifaceted. On the one hand, it is affected by multiple aspects such as water temperature, salinity, light, including nutrients, bacteria, including their feeding organisms.
As of now, this red tide has not had an adverse impact on the population or caused fishery losses. Zhuhai Municipal Ocean Development Bureau has reminded marine-related units such as Binhai tourist areas and fishery aquaculture to closely monitor the red tide trends and take timely response measures. Relevant departments will continue to track and monitor in the future.
