Zhang Dianxing, a villager in Wenji Town, Yingquan District, Fuyang City, Anhui Province, got up early. He was worried about participating in an important event - catching a big market.
In rural areas of northern Anhui, going to market is a big deal. Wenji Town has a festival every few days on the lunar calendar. As the Spring Festival approaches, the festival becomes more and more lively.
This big episode is unusual. 40 growers brought their own fresh strawberries, which were competed on site and sold on site, and Zhang Dianxing was one of them. Wang Changliang, Secretary of the Party Committee of Wenji Town, introduced that strawberry cultivation is a local characteristic industry. The strawberry planting area in the town reaches 24,000 mu, with an annual output of more than 70,000 tons of fresh fruits, and an annual output value of over 1.1 billion yuan.
"Celestial Evil", "Red Jade", "Ice and Snow Princess"... Zhang Dianxing brought 15 strawberry varieties grown by himself. "Through cooperation with research institutes such as Beijing Academy of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences, Anhui Academy of Agricultural Sciences, we have developed many new varieties suitable for local cultivation."
Strawberry fruit wine, strawberry cake, strawberry candied haws, strawberry makeup... In the collection, the strawberry elements are dazzling. "Wenji Town has formed a complete strawberry industry chain of 'detoxification seedling cultivation - facility planting - cold chain logistics - deep processing - leisure tourism'. This time, the big market has built a rich consumption scenario around strawberries." Wang Changliang said, "We have also made a distribution map of the strawberry garden in the town for consumers to experience picking."
There are not only strawberries. The special products such as shredded mustard greens, beans, pecan fruits sold on Daji are all planted or processed in Wenji Town.
Sun Lijuan, a citizen living in Fuyang City, saw the information on Wenji Town’s opening ceremony on her mobile phone the day before yesterday, and drove to experience the fireworks. One hour later, she and her daughter had two more bags of strawberries and a bag of soybeans in their hands.

Amid the sound of gongs and drums, Grandma Wang, who is in her 70s, wears a hairpin and blush on her face, interacts with the "shipper" beside her - the Sunset Red Art Troupe from Sutun Village, Wenji Town is performing a dry boat parade. In the big show, performances such as inspiration and Henan Opera took turns to appear. On the other hand, the art and art market event organized by the Yingquan District Federation of Literary and Art Circles is underway. Consumers can obtain Yinghuai dough sculptures, Yingquan paper cuttings made by intangible cultural heritage inheritors, and Spring Festival couplets written by members of the Calligraphers Association.
Big episodes have "looks" and "earnings". In recent years, Fuyang City has focused on creating a new cultural and tourism consumption scenario of "Thousands of Gatherings and Hundreds of Meetings" and integrated local historical and cultural heritage, folk customs, intangible cultural heritage skills, and life services into food, snacks and department stores. The distinctive rural integration has become an important tool for Fuyang to enhance popularity, promote consumption, drive industries, and activate rural areas. Data shows that the average daily passenger flow of each Dachuang in Fuyang is about 20,000. In November 2024 alone, the local Dachuang had a total direct consumption of 6 billion yuan, driving indirect consumption of 12 billion yuan for farm stays and other indirect consumption.
