CCTV News: China Internet Information Center released the "Statistical Report on the Development of China's Internet" on January 17. As of December 2024, my country's Internet penetration rate rose to 78.6%, and the number of netizens reached 1.108 billion.
The report shows that 2024 is the 30th anniversary of my country's full-function access to the international Internet. In the past 30 years, my country has built the world's largest and technologically advanced Internet infrastructure, and built the world's largest online retail market and Internet user group. As of November 2024, a total of 4.191 million 5G base stations have been built nationwide, a net increase of 815,000 from the end of last year. As of December 2024, the number of national top-level domain names ".CN" has reached 20.82 million, maintaining the world's first place for ten consecutive years.
Liu Yulin, director of the China Internet Network Information Center, said that my country's Internet infrastructure construction continues to make efforts to build the world's largest and technologically advanced Internet infrastructure, realizing gigabit access to 5G access to every village, and injecting continuous impetus into the construction of digital villages.
The report shows that as of December 2024, the rural Internet penetration rate has reached 65.6%; the Internet penetration rate among the elderly aged 60 and above has reached 52.5%; the number of online payment users has reached 1.029 billion, the number of online shopping users has reached 974 million, and the number of online retail sales and mobile payment penetration rates has remained the highest in the world. In addition, as of November 2024, my country has completed the registration of generative artificial intelligence services to 309, with more than 4,500 artificial intelligence companies, ranking second in the world in total computing power.
