CCTV News: The spokesperson of the Ministry of Commerce answered questions from reporters on launching a special campaign to combat strategic mineral smuggling and export.
Q: We have noticed that the Office of the National Export Control Work Coordination Mechanism has recently deployed a special action to combat strategic mineral smuggling and export. What are the considerations for the special action? What more work will be carried out?
Answer: Strengthening the export control of strategic mineral resources is related to national security and development interests. Since we implemented export controls on some strategic minerals, we have found that some overseas entities colluded with illegal domestic personnel, attempting to evade export control measures through smuggling and other means. In order to curb the momentum of smuggling, the Office of the National Export Control Work Coordination Mechanism focused on cracking down on strategic mineral smuggling on May 9, held a on-site meeting in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province and made special arrangements, and will also organize a series of actions in the near future.
The on-site meeting further clarified the division of tasks of the Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of State Security, the General Administration of Customs, the State Post Bureau and other departments in this special operation, requiring all relevant departments to strengthen law enforcement cooperation, severely crack down on strategic mineral smuggling and export, form a high-pressure situation of "jointly and jointly managed", take practical and effective measures, and resolutely prevent the illegal outflow of strategic minerals.
All relevant departments immediately carried out actions to quickly carry out cross-departmental investigations and case consultations in response to recent illegal and irregular acts in the strategic mineral field that have occurred in the field of strategic minerals, such as false reports and concealment, smuggling, and re-export of "third countries", attempting to evade export control, increase port inspections and crackdowns, dig deep into illegal entities and smuggling networks behind the scenes, strictly and quickly investigate and handle illegal cases, continuously improve the effectiveness of export control law enforcement, and effectively safeguard national security and development interests.
