Recently, the 58th Annual Meeting of the Asian Development Bank Council was held in Milan, Italy. Minister of Finance and ADB China Director Lan Foan attended the meeting and made a speech.

Lan Foan said at the meeting that the current international situation is intensifying and chaos is frequent, and unilateralism and protectionism are on the rise. Especially in recent days, some countries have launched tariff wars and trade wars, bringing unprecedented huge risks to the global economy. All members should work together, uphold the spirit of openness, inclusiveness, unity and cooperation, respect the rules of multilateral institutions, and inject more certainty and positive energy into global economic development. China calls on the ADB to hold high the banner of multilateralism, give full play to the role of a multilateral cooperation platform, promote members to strengthen policy coordination, help developing members accelerate economic development and deepen regional cooperation, adhere to the established policy direction of responding to climate change, promote regional digital transformation, promote the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries, and support members to effectively respond to challenges and achieve prosperity and development.

Lan Foan pointed out that China is a beneficiary and contributor to economic globalization, and its contribution to global economic growth has remained at around 30% in recent years. GDP grew by 5.4% year-on-year in the first quarter of this year, achieving a good start. China will adopt more active and proactive macro policies and be confident of achieving the growth target of about 5% in 2025. China will continue to build a unified domestic market, expand high-level opening up, share China's development opportunities and dividends with the world, especially the Asia-Pacific members, work together to meet the challenges of the times, and create a better future for the Asia-Pacific.
