CCTV News: Imaging technology is one of the most important research tools in biomedical science and is also the core driving force for the development of basic research in life sciences and clinical medical research. my country's first comprehensive large scientific device in the field of biomedical imaging - a multimodal cross-scale biomedical imaging facility, passed the national acceptance at Huairou Science City, Beijing on March 21.

Multimodal cross-scale biomedical imaging facilities are a major national scientific and technological infrastructure approved and built during the 13th Five-Year Plan period in my country. The facility can conduct research on various modes such as optical microscopy, electron microscopy, magnetoencephalography, magnetic resonance, etc. for the research objectives, and provide an experimental environment with an imaging space-time scale spanning from sub-nanometers to meters and from milliseconds to life cycles, providing support for the research of complex life science issues and major diseases such as brain science and brain diseases, tumor medicine, cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, stem cells, and developmental and regenerative medicine.

Multimodal cross-scale biomedical imaging facilities cover 15 imaging modalities and derivative modes, including positron emission, magnetic resonance, ultrasound, optics, X-rays, electron microscopy, etc.

The multimodal cross-scale biomedical imaging facility was jointly built by Peking University and the Institute of Biophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Relying on the facilities, scientific researchers have developed internationally leading instruments and equipment for live cell super-resolution imaging microscopy, cryo-optoelectronic association microscopy and other instruments, and have published nearly 200 papers in international high-level academic journals.

Reporter visits large scientific devices and a powerful tool to explore the mysteries of life
Multimodal cross-scale biomedical imaging facilities can conduct research on living organisms at different levels and scales from macro to micro, and there are also various research methods. Let’s follow the reporter to take a look at the multimodal living cell imaging device, where mysterious life phenomena can be presented.
In the multimodal live cell imaging device, one of the core devices of the multimodal cross-scale biomedical imaging facility, the person in charge told reporters that the imaging methods of this device include super-resolution structured light imaging, confocal microscopy imaging, two-photon microscopy imaging, etc., which can obtain details of living cells' life activities, as well as the dynamic structure and functional information of the organelles.
According to reports, in this device, researchers will mark some details of the cells they want to see through fluorescent labeling to carry out research.
