On February 25, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Lin Jian presided over a regular press conference. A reporter asked, on February 24, the Canadian side issued a statement announcing that it would impose sanctions on 76 foreign entities and individuals that provide support for dual-use military and civilian items to Russia, including more than 20 Chinese entities. What is China’s comment on this?
Lin Jian said that China has always opposed unilateral sanctions without the basis of international law and without the authorization of the UN Security Council. Canada's sanctions on Chinese entities are unreasonable and very wrong. China firmly opposes it and has made solemn representations to Canada on this.
Lin Jian stressed that China has always adhered to an objective and fair position on the Ukraine issue, is committed to promoting a political solution to the crisis, never providing deadly weapons to conflicting parties, strictly control the export of dual-use military and civilian items, and the scope and measures for export control of drones are the strictest level in the world. Like other countries, China has carried out normal economic and trade cooperation with Russia on the basis of equality and mutual benefit, which is reasonable and unreproachable. China urges Canada to immediately revoke its wrong decision. We will take necessary measures to resolutely safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises.
