Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, February 24 (Reporters Ma Zhuoyan and Cheng Xin) In response to the White House website’s investment policy memorandum on February 21, it focused on further restricting two-way investment with China. Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said in a question at a regular press conference on the 24th that the relevant memorandum issued by the US has listed China as a foreign opponent on the grounds of national security and has taken various discriminatory measures to strengthen the restrictions on two-way investment in China. China is strongly dissatisfied with this and firmly opposed it, and has made solemn representations to the US.

Lin Jian said that the United States has stepped up stricter review of China's investment security in the United States, seriously damaging Chinese companies' confidence in investment in the United States, and undermining the United States' own business environment; increasing restrictions on US investment in China is to artificially interfere with the independent decision-making of American companies and distort investment exchanges between the two countries.

"The United States keeps Chinese companies and the Chinese market out, which ultimately harms the United States' own economic interests and international credibility." Lin Jian said that China urges the United States to abide by international investment and trade rules, respect the laws of the market economy, stop politicizing and weaponizing economic and trade issues, and stop damaging China's legitimate development rights. China will take necessary measures to resolutely safeguard its legitimate rights and interests.

In response to the US's restrictions on China's shipbuilding and other related industries, Lin Jian pointed out that the US abused the 301 investigation methods for domestic political needs, which seriously violated the WTO rules and was a further undermining of the multilateral trading system. China strongly dissatisfied with this and firmly opposed it.

"We urge the US to respect facts and multilateral rules and immediately stop wrong practices. China will take necessary measures to defend its legitimate rights and interests." Lin Jian said.
