China News Service, Zhuhai, February 22 (Deng Yuanwen, Wang Xiangguo) The 40-day 2025 Spring Festival travel rush ended on February 22. The border inspection station of the Zhuhai Border Inspection General Station of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge announced that during this year's Spring Festival travel rush, it has inspected and released more than 3.39 million passengers and 670,000 vehicles, an increase of about 17.2% and 25.1% respectively compared with the 2024 Spring Festival travel rush, setting a new record for passenger flow during the Spring Festival travel rush since the opening of the bridge.
It is understood that during the Spring Festival travel rush, there were 1.443 million mainland passengers entering and leaving the Zhuhai Highway Port of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (hereinafter referred to as the Bridge Port), and more than 1.892 million Hong Kong-Macao passengers, an increase of 29.2% and 9.2% year-on-year compared with the 2024 Spring Festival travel rush.
Among the passengers passing through the bridge port, children, teenagers and the elderly accounted for 30%, and 1.858 million passengers entered and left the country by private cars, accounting for 54.8% of the total passenger flow, indicating that the demand for cross-border self-driving by families was concentrated. Among them, Hong Kong's passengers had 1.277 million, which further increased in 2024, becoming the main force in passenger flow at the bridge port this year's Spring Festival travel rush.
In addition, the Huangmaohai cross-sea channel, which was opened to traffic by the end of 2024, forms a cross-sea channel "connection" with the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, greatly improving regional traffic efficiency. On February 1 (the fourth day of the Chinese New Year), the single-day inbound and outbound passenger flow at the bridge port exceeded 170,000 for the first time, with 25,000 vehicles, and more than 14,000 vehicles per license plate in Hong Kong, both of which set a new record for the highest single-day. During the Spring Festival (January 28 to February 4), the cumulative number of passengers and 161,000 vehicles were inspected and released, accounting for 30.1% of the total number of Spring Festival travel.
Chen Faqiu, the stationmaster of the border inspection station of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, said that in the face of new changes and new situations in passenger flow at the bridge port this year's Spring Festival travel rush, the station continues to promote the upgrade of port software and hardware, improve the level of technology empowerment, and continuously improve the efficiency of port traffic around the upgrade of the vehicle's "one-stop" inspection system, the transformation of the "cargo to passenger" channel, and the application of new inspection equipment.
