In the past few days, National People's Congress representative Zhang Yuzhen came to Shanghang County, Longyan City, Fujian Province to conduct in-depth research on the current construction of rural groundwater monitoring network system.

Monitoring groundwater is to grasp the dynamic trends of groundwater water quality and water level, which is also an important basis for rational development, utilization, protection, and prevention and control of pollution. She has been engaged in ecological and environmental protection for a long time. Zhang Yuzhen has always been concerned about the field of environmental protection and actively made suggestions. The "Suggestions on Strengthening the Protection and Construction of Beautiful Bays" she proposed was selected as a typical case of high-quality handling of representative suggestions released by the National People's Congress for the first time. This year, Zhang Yuzhen’s suggestions are related to the protection of rural groundwater resources.

National People's Congress representative Zhang Yuzhen said: "For drought and water-scarce areas, especially in the northern areas, water resources are relatively scarce, and groundwater is still a very important source of water. For water resources relatively abundant, such as in the southern areas, if some drought seasons or surface water is polluted to a certain extent, groundwater is the backup source." Zhang Yuzhen investigated and learned that my country has built a relatively complete surface water and groundwater monitoring station network system, but there are still situations such as incomplete layout of the monitoring network and insufficient coverage.

National People's Congress representative Zhang Yuzhen said: "In terms of spatial distribution, there are more groundwater monitoring points in the northern water-scarce areas, while for southern areas with abundant water resources, there are relatively few groundwater monitoring points. There are also some irregular construction and insufficient representativeness in the selection of points, and the information technology area is still relatively weak."

After visits, investigations and in-depth thinking, Zhang Yuzhen decided to bring the "Suggestions on Strengthening the Construction of Rural Groundwater Monitoring Network System" to this year's National People's Congress and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.

National People's Congress representative Zhang Yuzhen said: "We must pay attention to the protection of groundwater resources, optimize and improve the layout of rural groundwater monitoring points in my country, increase rural groundwater monitoring points, and expand the monitoring scope. At the same time, we must use automated technology and information technology to improve my country's rural groundwater monitoring equipment and technical level."
