CCTV News: Tang Sancai is a pottery with a unique style that was popular in the Tang Dynasty and has a history of more than 1,300 years. In 2008, Tang Sancai firing skills were included in the national list of representative projects of intangible cultural heritage. The so-called "three colors" refers to the decoration of yellow, green and white on the white body to express the meaning of colorfulness. Because a large number of Tang Sancai treasures were unearthed in Luoyang, they are also called "Luoyang Tang Sancai".

This is more in line with the atmosphere of the times when society was open and women had a very high status.

Tang Sancai is a low-temperature glaze pottery that was popular in the Tang Dynasty. It is mainly divided into three types: people, animals and utensils. It uses kaolin as body material, and its glaze color is yellow, green, blue, white, purple, and brown. During the firing process, the glaze will naturally drift and soak each other after melting, creating a unique artistic effect.

Gao Shuiwang, a representative inheritor of the national intangible cultural heritage, introduced that copper oxide appears green and cobalt oxide appears blue. It has not burned to a certain temperature or when it has just been glazed, it looks basically the same color. Therefore, the fire of Tang Sancai is also a kiln that produces all the colors.

The fireing technique of Tang Sancai is very complex. From material selection to shaping, to the two firings in the kiln, through vegetarian firing and glaze firing to the final product, there are more than 30 processes. Among them, in order to enhance the artistic realism, the three-color figure figurines need to be fired and the phases are still required to be completed.

Gao Shuiwang introduced that Tang Sancai generally has the whole body glazed, but only the head and face are not glazed, because this glaze is a low-temperature glaze that is easy to flow. After burning, paint it on it.

Tang Sancai traditional craftsmanship is the key to better inheritance and innovation. On the basis of inheriting the traditional Tang Sancai firing skills, the new generation of Luoyang inheritors has continuously integrated new materials and new crafts to create special works that integrate tradition and fashion.

Tang Sancai's works have smooth lines and bright colors, and the three-color glaze paintings derived from this make the three-dimensional Tang Sancai planar. On the basis of the three-color glaze color, it enhances the richness of color and integrates artistic styles such as Chinese painting, so that the three-color art can appear in more creative spaces.

Guo Aihe, director of the China Three Color Art Institute of Luoyang Normal University in Henan, introduced that they extracted its elements from the brightness and flow of traditional three color techniques and created thousands of three color glaze colors. They used these glaze colors to create the three-color art, allowing the three-color art to be integrated into various scenes of our lives.
