Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, February 20 (Reporters Ma Zhuoyan and Feng Xinran) According to reports, Chinese experts recently went to Japan to carry out independent sampling and monitoring of the discharge of nuclear-polluted water in Fukushima. Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said in an answering question at a regular press conference on the 20th that from February 19 to 21, under the organization of the International Atomic Energy Agency, experts from many countries, including China, went to the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant's sea discharge facilities and nearby waters to independently collect samples of nuclear polluted water, seawater and other to be discharged, and participated in the collection of marine biological samples.
Guo Jiakun said that this is a specific step for Japan to implement its commitment on the issue of water discharge from Fukushima nuclear pollution. In the future, international monitoring of Fukushima nuclear-polluted water discharge and China's independent sampling monitoring will continue to be implemented, and China will promptly release the latest progress.
Another reporter asked: It is understood that marine biological samples collected by Chinese experts have arrived in China. Can China confirm it?
Guo Jiakun said that Fukushima nuclear-polluted water discharge involves many aspects and is a complex and highly professional issue. In order to scientifically and comprehensively evaluate the impact of Fukushima nuclear-polluted water discharge, under the organization of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Chinese experts have collected a variety of different samples, including seawater in the waters near the sea outlet, marine organisms, and nuclear-polluted water to be discharged in nuclear power plant discharge facilities. China will work with the international community to continue to improve relevant arrangements.
Guo Jiakun said that the marine biological samples collected by Chinese experts have arrived in China recently. Domestic professional research institutions in China are conducting rigorous and independent testing and analysis, and the results will be announced in a timely manner.
