Xinhua News Agency, Lhasa, January 7 (Reporters Bai Shaobo and Lu Danyang) A magnitude 6.8 earthquake occurred at 9:5 on the 7th in Dingri County, Shigatse City, Tibet. The reporter contacted Dingri County to verify that the tremor in the county town and its surrounding areas was very obvious, and many houses collapsed near the epicenter. The reporter learned from the Earthquake Bureau of the Tibet Autonomous Region that some people have been killed, involving three townships including Changsuo Township, Quluo Township, and Cuoguo Township, Dingri County.
Dingri County County Mayor Tsai Dunzhu introduced that the local government has dispatched cadres including transportation, water conservancy, housing and construction, township and village resident cadres to carry out rescue, and at the same time organizes people to evacuate safely to prevent the impact of aftershocks.
