Xinhua News Agency, United Nations, May 26 (Reporters Shang Xuqian and Pan Yunzhao) On the 26th, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister, introduced China's contribution to promoting the cause of the United Nations when presiding over the high-level meeting of the United Nations Security Council on "Upholding the Purposes and Principles of the United Nations Charter and Strengthening the International System with the United Nations as the Core."
Wang Yi said that this year marks the 55th anniversary of the restoration of the People’s Republic of China’s lawful seat in the United Nations. Over the past 55 years, China, as a permanent member of the Security Council, has actively participated in and promoted the cause of the United Nations.
At a time of turmoil and change in the world, China holds its flag high. President Xi Jinping proposed the important concept of building a community with a shared future for mankind and four major global initiatives, which quickly received widespread response from the international community.
When international conflicts occur frequently, China promotes peace and talks. We practice solutions to hot-spot issues with Chinese characteristics, including initiating the establishment of the "Friends of Peace" group on the Ukraine crisis on the United Nations platform, and continue to contribute wisdom and strength to world peace.
At a time when global development is struggling, China is empowering and increasing efficiency. The Global Development Initiative has mobilized more than 23 billion U.S. dollars in funds, launched more than 1,800 cooperation projects, held tens of thousands of capacity-building projects for developing countries, and trained more than 200,000 talents of all types, strongly supporting the development and revitalization of the Global South.
In the face of major public crises, China has rushed to the rescue from thousands of miles away. After fully supporting the three West African countries in the fight against the Ebola epidemic in 2015, China is willing to provide as much assistance as it can to the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda, which have recently experienced Ebola outbreaks. At this very moment, the Chinese medical team is on the ground, fighting side by side with our African brothers on the front line of the fight against the epidemic.
When multilateralism encounters headwinds, China stands up to its responsibilities. We conscientiously fulfill our financial obligations as the second largest contributor to the United Nations, establish and make good use of the China-United Nations Peace and Development Fund, Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund, advocate the establishment of the International Mediation Institute and the World Data Organization, prepare for the establishment of the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization, actively apply to host the Secretariat of the Agreement on Marine Biodiversity, and use practical actions to support multilateralism.
