China's Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Sun Lei, spoke at the Security Council on the 22nd when the International Criminal Court was reviewing the Libyan issue, urging the court to carry out its work objectively and impartially.
He said that China has noted the recent work of the International Criminal Court in the collection of case evidence, investigation and trial. China calls on the court to continue to perform its duties strictly in accordance with facts and laws and ensure that relevant procedures comply with the basic principles of international criminal justice. The court should continue to respect Libya's judicial sovereignty, strengthen communication and coordination with the Libyan side, properly handle the relationship between international justice and domestic justice, and further strive for the understanding and support of the Libyan people.
He said that currently, the Libyan political process is in a deadlock. The international community should jointly promote relevant parties in Libya to resolve differences through dialogue and consultation, sincerely participate in United Nations-led mediation efforts, and build consensus on holding national elections and achieving the unification of national institutions. The relevant work of the International Criminal Court should help all parties in Libya strengthen unity and unity and avoid amplifying differences and contradictions.
He said that China is willing to work with all parties to firmly support Libya's efforts to safeguard sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, and play a constructive role in promoting Libya's early realization of national unity, unity and long-term peace and stability.
