In this regard, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said at a regular press conference on May 22 that the latest data shows that Japan’s defense expenditure in 2025 hit a record high. On the basis of 14 consecutive years of military expenditure growth, Japan’s right-wing forces are still clamoring for an increase in defense expenditure.
