On the afternoon of May 12, President Xi Jinping met with Crown Prince Bila of Brunei, who was in China for an official visit, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
Xi Jinping pointed out that China and Brunei are close neighbors, and the Maritime Silk Road closely links the two countries. Cooperation between China and Brunei has not only brought tangible benefits to the two peoples, but also set an example of equal treatment and win-win cooperation between big and small countries. Last year, Hassanal Sultan and I reached an important consensus on building a Chinese community with a shared future, opening a new chapter in our bilateral relations. This year marks the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Brunei. Facing the chaotic international situation, both sides should take the construction of a community of shared future between China and Brunei as a guide, strengthen strategic communication, deepen practical cooperation, and inject more positive energy into regional peace and stability.
Xi Jinping emphasized that this year is the first year of China’s “15th Five-Year Plan” and Brunei is striving towards the “2035 Vision”. The two sides should take this as a point of convergence to promote China-Brunei cooperation to a new level. First, we need to be strategic partners with a high degree of mutual trust, continue to firmly support each other, and coordinate the promotion of exchanges and cooperation in various fields. The second is to be mutually beneficial and win-win development partners, promote major flagship cooperation projects, and expand cooperation in emerging fields such as artificial intelligence and digital economy. The third is to be civilized partners who understand each other and work together to implement global civilization initiatives, intensify people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and create new highlights of people-to-people connectivity. The fourth is to be a partner in global governance, work with ASEAN countries to promote the building of a closer China-ASEAN community with a shared future, and build the region into a demonstration highland for peace, stability, development and prosperity amid a century of changes.
Bila conveyed Sultan Hassanal’s sincere greetings to President Xi Jinping. Billa said that China is Brunei's long-term friend and the two peoples have profound friendship. Brunei firmly adheres to the one-China policy and is willing to work with China to promote the vision of building a community with a shared future set by the two heads of state, deepen strategic cooperative partnership, maintain close high-level exchanges, and strengthen trade and investment cooperation to benefit the people of both sides. Under the wise leadership of President Xi Jinping, China has made significant achievements in economic and social development, and its achievements in poverty alleviation have attracted worldwide attention. It is believed that China will successfully implement the new blueprint of the 15th Five-Year Plan and achieve greater development. China has played a key role in promoting world peace and stability and safeguarding multilateralism and international order. Brunei highly appreciates President Xi Jinping's concept of building a community with a shared future for mankind and global governance initiatives. The ASEAN-China comprehensive strategic partnership has brought benefits to the region. Brunei looks forward to working closely with China to deepen cooperation between ASEAN and China and safeguard regional prosperity and stability.
