CCTV News: According to the National Bureau of Statistics website, in April 2026, the national consumer price increased by 1.2% year-on-year. Among them, urban prices increased by 1.2% and rural areas increased by 1.0%; food prices fell by 1.6% and non-food prices increased by 1.8%; consumer goods prices increased by 1.4% and service prices increased by 0.9%. On average from January to April, the national consumer price increased by 0.9% compared with the same period last year.
In April, the national consumer price increased by 0.3% month-on-month. Among them, urban prices increased by 0.3% and rural areas increased by 0.1%; food prices fell by 1.6%, non-food prices increased by 0.7%; consumer goods prices increased by 0.1%, and service prices increased by 0.5%.

1. Year-on-year price changes of various goods and services
In April, the prices of food, tobacco, alcohol and catering outside the home fell by 0.8% year-on-year, affecting the CPI (Consumer Price Index) to drop by approximately 0.24 percentage points. Among food, the price of livestock and meat fell by 6.7%, affecting the CPI to fall by about 0.28 percentage points, of which the price of pork fell by 15.2%, affecting the CPI to fall by about 0.29 percentage points; the price of fresh fruits fell by 1.0%, affecting the CPI to fall by about 0.02 percentage points; the price of fresh vegetables fell by 0.5%, affecting the CPI to fall by about 0.01 percentage points; the price of aquatic products rose by 1.3%, affecting the CPI to fall by about 0.02 percentage points.
The prices of the other seven major categories increased six times and fell one year on year. Among them, the prices of other supplies and services, transportation and communications, and medical care increased by 11.0%, 4.6%, and 2.2% respectively; the prices of clothing, daily necessities and services, and education, culture, and entertainment increased by 1.5%, 1.4%, and 1.3% respectively; and the price of housing decreased by 0.2%.
2. Month-on-month changes in prices of various goods and services
In April, the prices of food, tobacco, alcohol and catering outside the home fell by 1.0% month-on-month, affecting the CPI to fall by about 0.28 percentage points. Among food, the price of fresh vegetables fell by 6.4%, affecting the CPI to fall by about 0.11 percentage points; the price of livestock and meat fell by 2.7%, affecting the CPI to fall by about 0.11 percentage points, of which the price of pork fell by 5.7%, affecting the CPI to fall by about 0.10 percentage points. Points: the price of fresh fruits fell by 2.3%, affecting the CPI to fall by about 0.05 percentage points; the price of aquatic products fell by 1.2%, affecting the CPI to fall by about 0.02 percentage points; the price of eggs rose by 2.7%, affecting the CPI to rise by about 0.01 percentage points.
The prices of the other seven major categories increased three times, stayed flat and fell three times month-on-month. Among them, the prices of transportation and communications, education, culture and entertainment, and medical care increased by 3.5%, 0.5%, and 0.3% respectively; the prices of daily necessities and services remained unchanged; the prices of other supplies and services, clothing, and housing decreased by 0.5%, 0.3%, and 0.1% respectively.
