President Rakhmon
At the invitation of President Xi Jinping, President Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan will pay a state visit to China from May 11 to 14.
Emomali Rahmon was born on October 5, 1952, in a peasant family in Dangala District, Tajikistan. Graduated from the No. 40 Vocational Technical High School in Kalininabat (now Sarband) in 1969. Served in the Pacific Fleet from 1971 to 1974. Graduated from the Department of Economics of the National University of Tajikistan in 1982.
Since 1974, he has worked at the Lenin State Farm in Dangara District, and has successively served as Secretary of the Management Committee, Chairman of the Trade Union, and Chairman of the Farm. In 1990, he was elected People's Representative of the Supreme Soviet of Tajikistan. In 1992, he served as Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Kulyab Oblast People's Deputies Committee. In November of the same year, he was elected Chairman of the Supreme Soviet of the Republic of Tajikistan.
On November 6, 1994, he was elected President of Tajikistan in a referendum. He was re-elected as President of Tajikistan in 1999, 2006, 2013, and 2020, with each term lasting 7 years.
Married with 9 children.
