Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council: Firmly Oppose "Taiwan Independence" Separatism and External Interference
2026-04-22 source:CCTV News

On April 22, the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council held a regular press conference. A reporter asked: Lai Ching-te recently said that "unification in a peaceful package will bring endless troubles to Taiwan." Any comment on this?

Spokesperson Zhang Han said that Taiwan is part of China. It has never been a country and cannot become a country. There is no so-called "sovereignty" at all. China is the common home of the Chinese nation. Compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait must protect and build a common home. The fundamental thing is to adhere to the "1992 Consensus" and oppose "Taiwan independence." The core is to recognize that both sides of the Taiwan Strait belong to one China. Peace is the common value of compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait. Maintaining peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait is the common expectation of compatriots on both sides. The DPP authorities go against the mainstream public opinion, stubbornly adhere to the separatist stance of "Taiwan independence", and deliberately obstruct cross-Strait exchanges and cooperation. They are the culprits of undermining peace across the Taiwan Strait and the initiator of tension and turmoil in the Taiwan Strait.

Taiwan’s future, as well as the safety, security, interests and well-being of Taiwan compatriots, have always been tied to the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations and the reunification of the motherland. More and more Taiwan compatriots have realized clearly that the Lai Ching-te administration's pursuit of "independence" will only lead to war and destruction of Taiwan. They firmly oppose "Taiwan independence" separatism and external interference, and actively seek peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.
