CCTV News: Keping County, Aksu Prefecture, Xinjiang, known for its "Xinjiang Camel City", is the peak period for camels to pick velvet from the end of April to the beginning of June every year. Next, let’s take a look at the scene where the herders pick velvet for camels.

Walking into a camel breeding base in Keping County, Xinjiang, some camels lowered their heads to eat, while others kneeled down to rest. In the factory, staff were queuing up the camels and fixing them one by one. After that, they gently pushed away the thick velvets of the camels, carefully trimmed them along the texture of the hair, and then put the camel velvet into a bag to collect them.

Unlike breeding bases, the herdsmen's velvet harvesting work depends on everyone's concerted efforts. They first use lasso to encircle the target camels. In order to prevent them from moving around during shearing, the herdsmen have to hold the camels, and then cut the camels in the order of their necks, torso, and double peaks.

According to reports, camel velvet has good warmth, light weight, and easy to wash. It is an important raw material for making high-end wool textiles and is highly favored by the market. This year, the local area actively organized farmers and herdsmen to adopt various methods to collect camel velvet. At the same time, we actively contact the market to ensure that the camel velvet of more than 40,000 camels in the county can be sold in a timely and smooth manner.
